Pisgah National Forest

What place in North Carolina is home to Sliding Rock, the Cradle of Forestry, and some of the highest mountain peaks east of the Mississippi River?  The answer lies in the Pisgah National Forest, one of four national forests within the state.  This forest is also the second largest of the four national forests.  It borders both Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell State Parks in Western NC.

Author and naturalist Marci Spencer wrote about the history and creation of this forest in the aptly titled "Pisgah National Forest."  Want to discover dozens of hiking trails or learn the locations of some of the best mountain swimming holes?  Then please consider "The Best Hikes of Pisgah National Forest," written by C. Franklin Goldsmith III, Shannon E.G Hamrick, and H. James Hamrick, Jr.

Interested in learning more?  Then please check out these books at your local library or bookstore!  Happy reading (and sightseeing)!
