NC Lighthouses

Thinking about heading to a North Carolina beach?  How about exploring one of the state's seven lighthouses, while there?  Guarding just over 300 miles from Corolla down to Oak Island, these lighthouses were once used to warn ships and their crew of impending and often unseen dangers.  Today, most of these lighthouses have been decommissioned and are open to the public.

The NC Lit Map contains various titles about these magnificent structures.  Local historian John Hairr wrote about their history in "North Carolina Lighthouses and Lifesaving Stations".  Got kids?  Then you might want to peruse Terrance Zepke's aptly titled "Lighthouses of the Carolinas for Kids".  Interested in learning more?  Then check out these books at your local library or bookstore!  Happy reading (and sightseeing)!
